BT Business approached Comtec to produce and stage their “Kick
Off” conference . With an audience in excess of 800 people, a venue
was required to host a Conference, Exhibition, Gala Dinner and an overnight
stay, Comtec sourced the Hilton Birmingham Metropole & provided all
Production , Staging and Event Management.
The main conference room was converted into a Television Studio with all technical
equipment and crew visible. The TV Studio style production allowed for a greater
degree of flexibility and was a natural vehicle for combining weighty, in depth
business issues with lighter, news magazine style analysis, some fun elements
and audience interaction.
As with a TV channel videos were produced to be used as ‘Station Idents’, ‘adverts’, ‘News
Reports’ etc Comtec’s in-house team shot and edited a total of 35
video modules for the show. An MC was also required to help link all the ‘programmes’ together
and so Howard Stableford was brought in as the link man and host live interviews
along with audience Q&As.
The Monarch suite was used during the day as an exhibition and refreshments area
and then after a quick change around it was converted into a ‘ Chicago
Blues Club’ fit for a Gala Dinner. A Stage for a seven piece band and disco
was installed as well as PA, Video Projection and an intelligent lighting system.
A Star Cloth back drop and “Chicago Cityscape” gobos projected around
the room set the mood perfectly.
